Founded in 1936 by Stephen E. Watkins, Watkins Insurance began as a general agency serving Southside Virginia.  Watkins built an agency committed to serving the needs of his customers.

In 1962, the second generation took over. Under Stephen E. Watkins, Jr. the focus of the agency shifted to consolidation of coverages in the form of package policies, providing more comprehensive coverages, with a single insurance company.  Under Steve Watkins, the agency has continued to grow through several acquisitions over the years, providing broadened agency product offerings in personal insurance, business insurance, life, health and disability insurance, now representing seven insurance companies.

Watkins staff has increased and today, Watkins Insurance serves thousands of customers, with an expansive menu of products to meets the needs of a constantly changing market.  We offer knowledge and experience that enable us assess our customer’s risks and develop a responsible, comprehensive, cost-effective coverage program for our customers needs.
